Cafetos (2018)
Mexico City, Mexico
700m2
The "Bosques de Cafetos" project is located in Lomas de Chapultepec, within a residential urban context characterized by spacious gardens and tree-lined streets. The 2018 intervention aimed to revitalize a 1988 home designed by Eduardo Terrazas, improving its energy efficiency and thermal comfort through updates to installations, windows, and finishes.
The proposal respected the original essence of the house, introducing lightweight and glazed structures that maximize natural light and connect interior and exterior spaces. Areas like the exterior dining room and the access patio function as greenhouses that optimize the interior temperature. New spaces, such as a gym and an outdoor pavilion, expand the home's functionality.
Materials like tempered glass, high-efficiency windows, marble and wood flooring, and radiant heating systems were used. Regarding sustainability, passive strategies such as cross ventilation and solar panels were prioritized, reducing energy dependence and promoting efficient resource use.
The glass dining room stands as the central space, integrating the landscape into the design and fostering a versatile indoor-outdoor experience. The intervention revalues the property and demonstrates how to update existing residences without losing their architectural identity, aligning with contemporary trends in sustainable design.
