Casa Peña Sur (2010)
State of Mexico, Mexico
250m2
Casa Peña Sur, located in La Peña, Valle de Bravo, is set on a rocky outcrop with steep slopes and panoramic views of the lake. Built between 2010 and 2011, the proposal is distinguished by its respectful integration with the natural environment, preserving both the trees and rock formations on the site.
The project faced the challenge of adapting to the rugged terrain, respecting the original structure designed by Augusto Álvarez and expanding it with a contemporary approach, incorporating slabs and a flat roof with a green cover. The central concept seeks to blend architecture with the landscape without altering the topography or vegetation. Inspired by the typology of homes with an inner courtyard, the design is organized across multiple levels that maximize cross ventilation and the influx of natural light.
Outdoor spaces, such as terraces, patios, and balconies, frame views of the lake and surrounding landscape, promoting a smooth transition between the interior and nature. The architectural program divides the house into distinct zones: private areas include the master bedroom, equipped with a terrace and plunge pool, while social spaces are arranged around a central courtyard, featuring a large rock that organizes circulation.
In addition, the social terrace with a jacuzzi and service areas in the basement ensure functionality and comfort. The material palette uses lime-based paint, traditional brick, natural wood, and clay tile finishes, creating a sober and timeless aesthetic. Passive ventilation strategies and solar protection, along with the green roof, ensure low environmental impact and high thermal efficiency.
Casa Peña Sur stands as a refuge in harmony with its surroundings, combining tradition and contemporary design.
