Zünya Wellness Center (2023)
Nicoya, Costa Rica
1100m2
Zūnya Wellness Center, located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica, is a space designed to reconnect the human being with nature, promoting well-being and coexistence in harmony with the environment.Situated within a tropical forest, the project responds to the site’s unique features through a sustainable design that minimizes environmental impact and promotes the preservation of local biodiversity.
The architecture is placed with respect to the original topography, allowing for natural water flow and the free movement of wildlife. Native vegetation plays a key role, not only in integrating the project with the landscape but also in reducing maintenance costs and environmental impact.
Organized around a radial geometry, the design distributes spaces around a central core with a reflective pool. This courtyard not only articulates the different areas visually and functionally but also promotes cross ventilation and regulates temperature, creating a sensory experience of calm and reflection.
The modules house specific functions, balancing private and collective areas. The choice of materials reflects the commitment to sustainability. The structure combines concrete and wood with thermally insulated roofs, while systems such as rainwater harvesting and wastewater treatment optimize the use of natural resources.
More than a wellness center, Zūnya is a model of sustainable architecture that demonstrates how design can fully integrate with nature to offer a space of balance and connection.
